The community is surrounded by Lake Chicot. It is the state’s largest natural lake and the largest oxbow lake in North America. Discovered by Hernando DeSoto and later named by the French explorers, “Chicot” is French for “stumpy”. Major sport fish are bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, hybrid striper, and largemouth bass. Several fishing tournaments are held annually. Like a vast bayou, Chicot is very picturesque, and here visitors can see an astounding array of wetland wildlife and enjoy an assortment of boating, fishing and wildlife.
